Waterfront regeneration project aimed at boomer market
NEW YORK: A new waterfront regeneration project will be underpinned by support from the boomer market.
Construction of the first homes in a $160m housing development in Port Adelaide has begun.
The Fletcher’s Slip project will revitalise the stretch of Port River between Causeway Rd and the Birkenhead Bridge, with about 500 new apartments and townhouses.
WA developer Cedar Woods is leading the project.
The first townhouses are being built in the northwest corner of the development site, close to Semaphore Rd and the Glanville Railway Station.
Cedar Woods SA development director Mark Pivovaroff said more than 170 two and three-bedroom townhouses had already sold ahead of the launch of the project’s first apartments in the new year.
“It won’t take long until we start to see Fletcher’s Slip becoming a thriving, diverse community, having attracted a range of buyers including first home buyers, young families and mature couples,” he said.
“Strong sales and bringing forward the release of further town homes reflect the desirability of Fletcher’s Slip, its waterfront location, proximity to Semaphore and the beach, and the heart of Port Adelaide.”
The first residents are expected to move into their homes in the middle of next year, with the entire project expected to be completed by 2026.
Fletcher’s Slip will include a mix of townhouses, apartments, parks and gardens in 12ha of land.
A public promenade will open up to the waterfront to residents, while the restoration and reuse of heritage buildings and the existing boat slip at the north-western corner of the wharf will provide access to the water for kayaks and hand-powered watercraft.
