Social / affordable home development being created for healthcare workers

LOS ANGELES: The 82 new affordable housing apartments are being targeted at healthcare workers and disability carers.

Construction crews and heavy machinery have rolled out in Brisbane’s inner south to build 82 new social and affordable homes.

The units will provide housing for people on the social housing register and low-income workers employed in nearby retail, health and administrative services.

Forty-six homes will be one-bedroom units, nine will be two-bedroom units and the remainder will become studio apartments.

It’s the fifth project to be announced under a partnership between Brisbane Housing Company and QIC, funded through the Palaszczuk Government’s signature $2 billion HIF.

More than $479 million in project funding and 1,600 homes have been approved under the HIF, while another 71 proposals have been shortlisted to progress to the next stage of assessment.

In total, the HIF will see more 5,600 new social and affordable delivered, under construction or under contract over the next five years.

Construction will take place over the next year and a half.
