Refreshing building design now being applied increasingly to retirement villages
LOS ANGELES: Refreshing building design is now increasingly being applied to retirement villages and seniors living communities.
Bolton’s first ‘retirement village’ is set to open this autumn.
Lever Gardens is billed as a new exciting’ retirement development with homes to rent, in Little Lever.
Bolton at Home are behind the Lever Gardens complex in Dearden Street for the over 55s, which has care and support, including 24-hour emergency response and a range of facilities on site.
At the site there will be 62 apartments, each fitted with a modern kitchen, fitted bathroom, spacious living area, one or two bedrooms and some also have a balcony or terrace.
Each home is also fitted with an emergency alarm system, triggered by a pendant, or pull cord.
This means residents can call for help in an emergency, 24 hours a day.
There is also a buzz in system so residents can see people who are there before they let them in, so added security for residents.
The development also includes six two-bedroom bungalows for rent.
On-site, there’s a residents’ lounge, bistro-cafe, scooter room and landscaped gardens and for residents who enjoy social activities, they can get involved in coffee mornings, bingo, and other organised events.
Cllr Sean Hornby said: “This is a £12.5m project and it’s a first for Bolton and we are honoured that Bolton at Home chose Little Lever as the location for the 62 apartments on over three floors.
“There will be six additional bungalows built and there will be a bistro in there and a hair salon as well and it is the most modern facility.
“On the old site before on the Little Lever site they were bed sits and they were damp and in the end there were only three people out of the forty actually in the dwelling so it made sense to knock it down and make better use of that.
