Plans submitted to build 30 apartments at church site
LOS ANGELES: Plans have been submitted to develop 30 new apartments for the elderly on a church site..
The proposal, submitted by McCauls to Pendle Borough Council, aims to build the apartments at the site of St John Southworth Parish Vaughan Street Church.
Aimed at local people aged over 55, with a maximum of 30 homes with access to on-site communal facilities.
Developers are aiming to establish a well-designed retirement living accommodation, with shared amenities, a garden and communal spaces – all for affordable rents.
The planning statement said: “It is anticipated that the proposed development will be a positive addition to the housing offer in the local area, providing increased housing options for the local older population in modern, purpose-built, affordable homes.
“It is intended that the scheme will help residents to form a supportive and cooperative community, with amenities and facilities to support their wellbeing and tackle loneliness, by offering increased engagement with the existing neighbouring communities, to help embed the scheme within the local area.”
Landscaping schemes at the ground level mainly consist of a rectangular open courtyard within the centre of the site, as well as a communal garden and perimeter vegetation and hard-surfaced terraces.
Additionally, a common house will provide a single gathering point for residents’ activities.
The planning statement added: “Generous windows to living rooms and bedrooms face onto Park Drive, with Ground Floor apartments provided with a secure area of private amenity space with upper floor apartments having balconies.
“With the provision of these elements, the development creates an active frontage and provides natural surveillance onto Park Drive.
“The scheme has been designed with generous shared amenity space for use by all residents throughout the development. The large communal gardens provide space for relaxation and comfort for residents and invited guests.
“The space has been designed to accommodate residents with accessibility and mobility needs, and to provide a range of spaces for social interaction, group or shared activity, and private relaxation.”
