New purpose-built mental health hospital set for resort region

LOS ANGELES: A new purpose-built mental health hospital id now being proposed for a resort region.

Private mental health services across the Gold Coast are set to expand with development of a 60-bed facility in Southport to start early next year.

Planned to deliver 60 private mental health beds, day programs, integrated outpatient pathways, research, training and innovation in partnership with universities and health partners – the $50m purpose-built hospital will reside within the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct under a partnership with Avive Health and Niecon Developments.

Avive Health co-founder and co-CEO Mark Sweeney said the facility – Avive Clinic Gold Coast – will shape new models of care for mental health patients across South East Queensland.

“This partnership with Niecon positions us to deliver the next generation of mental health care inside a true health innovation precinct on the Gold Coast,” Mr Sweeney said.

“Clinicians want ownership, engagement, and the opportunity to shape new models of care while partnering with universities and health systems.

“Patients expect the very best facilities and access to innovative therapies – yet today’s mental health infrastructure remains stagnant, marked by limited choice and constrained capacity.”

The facilities proposed offerings include 60 private single bedrooms with ensuites, technogym-equipped patient gymnasium with exercise physiologists, psychedelic and assisted therapies, group and art therapy rooms, circadian lighting, electronic medical records and medication management, tailored range of therapeutic electives to support recovery, onsite private practice and indoor and outdoor recovery and relaxation areas.

Niecon managing director William Nikiforides said the health facility highlighted the pivotal role mental health plays in a holistic approach to healthcare.

“Together, we’re creating a space where innovation meets compassion, and where the health of our community is truly prioritised,” he said

The new mental health hospital will be part of a 200ha business and research development precinct with more than $5b in health, research and education infrastructure.
