New community concept to finesse communal yoga and meditation space

LOS ANGELES: A new community residential concept will finesse and highlight its communal yoga and meditation space.

Chatswood will soon be home to a $150m residential development designed around the concept of wellness and balance in a post-Covid environment.

Independent Sydney developer Central Element and joint venture partner MaxCap Group are launching what they say will be the first luxury residential development in almost four years for the lower north shore suburb.

The 17 storey building, Ethos, will have communal spaces for yoga and meditation as well as a design inspired by the natural rock formations of Sydney.

Designed by SJB, the development will comprise a mixture of one, two and three bedrooms apartments as well as penthouses with views across Sydney.

Construction at 15 Ellis St and 753 Pacific Hwy, Chatswood is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

SJB director Adam Haddow says the building aims to calm its residents by re-establishing a “relationship to place.”

“On a physiological level, the building is designed to engage with the senses – with stonework that naturally grounds and invites touch, and entrances and hallways that compress and embrace before soaring up and out to light and open living spaces,” he says.

A resident only Wellness Studio will provide space for yoga, meditation and exercise, while The Sky Lounge will provide an indoor/outdoor space for residents to meet for private dining and social events.

The penthouse collection will rise above Ellis St and include open-air balconies, native plants and expansive views.

Central Element managing director Nathan Chivas says the development will “lead the revitalisation of Chatswood’s residential offerings.”

“For us, achieving a sense of sanctuary was critical, so we made sure to curate amenities that resonate with how people want to live; including wellness spaces that allow people to relax or feel invigorated or exercise,” he says.

Ben Stewart, CBRE, says the development has already received a high volume of inquiry.

“We have had strong interest from people coming out of homes within the 5km radius and older style buildings within Chatswood,” he says.

“This is truly the highest standard the North Shore has ever seen. The design, finishes and layout are really catering to the Owner Occupier.”
