New affordable housing for seniors and families to be started

LOS ANGELES: An innovative plan for an affordable housing cluster for seniors and families has been announced.

A news release said the larger Cypress at Ardendale neighborhood will include features that make it easy for residents to connect and stay active, such as a half-acre park, clubhouse with a pool and fitness center, business center, and meeting spaces.

The project is part of the Baton Rouge Choice Neighborhood Transformation Plan, a $400 million public-private effort to rebuild parts of North Baton Rouge with better housing, education, and job opportunities.

Funding for the senior living project comes from several partners, including the Louisiana Housing Corporation, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas, Regions Affordable Housing Group, and loans from Chase Bank, Home Bank, and Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust.

The area will soon be easier to access thanks to the Ardenwood-Lobdell Connector Road, part of the city’s MOVEBR program. According to the news release, the new road will connect Cypress at Ardendale to nearby schools and training centers, including Baton Rouge Community College and the EBR Schools Career and Technical Education Center.

Construction is expected to begin in October 2025.
