LOS ANGELES: A new multigenerational community is now set to be created on a 15 acre mid city regeneration site.

Plans to build a huge new park next to the Bristol Arena site have been given the green light. YTL Developments was granted planning approval from South Gloucestershire Council to create the new 15-acre sustainable public park as part of its plans for a huge new neighbourhood at Filton Airfield.

The Brabazon neighbourhood, which will eventually include the new Bristol Arena, is taking shape almost three years after developer YTL first began construction. Earlier this year, YTL unveiled plans to increase the number of new homes at Filton Airfield to more than 6,500, with tower blocks in the central part of the vast site.

The development is being built in stages. The second phase of the Brabazon project will see new houses and apartments built on the northern side of the Filton Airfield site, following on from phase one which is known as ‘The Hangar District’ by developers.

And now the developers have been granted permission for Brabazon Park, the largest new urban public park in the South West for over 50 years.

Equivalent in size to Bristol’s Castle Park and featuring a 2.5 acre lake, Brabazon Park will be located between The Hangar District and the future 17,000 capacity YTL Arena Bristol.

Seb Loyn, planning and development director for YTL Developments, said: “Brabazon Park is a new landmark public space, designed to be the heart of the new community for generations to come.”

One of the highlights of the new green space will be the Heritage Trail, connecting the Brabazon Hangars with Aerospace Bristol Museum and retelling the history of the airfield’s pioneering past.

Visitors will be able to wander along the floating boardwalk around the lake, grab a coffee or a bite to eat at independent lakeside cafés and restaurants, or simply enjoy a picnic or community events on the public lawns.
