LGBTQ+-friendly senior housing community gets to open
LOS ANGELES: An LGBTQ+-friendly affordable senior housing community held its grand opening Thursday.
The new 57 apartment development on Apple Street is named John Arthur Flats, after the husband of Jim Obergefell whose Supreme Court case legalized same-sex marriage.
It provides affordable housing for LGBTQ+ seniors 55 and over at 30 to 60 percent of the area media income. Rents are as low as $444 a month.
There will be on-site services from Caracole and Churches Active in Northside (CAIN).
Studies show that LGBTQ+ seniors experience higher rates of housing discrimination and poverty.
