Developer wins go-ahead for Pocket Living social housing project

NEW YORK: A developer has won the go-ahead for an initiative pocket living social housing project.

Credon House will provide 22 one, two, and three-bedroom homes for social rent. It will also include 82m² affordable workspace on the ground floor.

This nine-storey scheme follows on from Gort Scott’s previous projects for Pocket Living: Gainsford Road and Forest Road, both in Waltham Forest.

Unlike standard Pocket Living one-bed ‘micro’ flats, all homes in this scheme are either dual or triple aspect and cover more floor area. Shared amenity space includes a landscaped courtyard, playspace and roof terrace.

The development is right next door to Maccreanor Lavington’s Varcoe Road development, also for Pocket Living, which consists of 57 one-bedroom flats and has over 400m² of communal space including a co-working space, sun-room and terraces.

Designed to complement the scale and massing of Varcoe Road, Credon House will feature calm elevations with a ‘tripartite layering of plinth, middle and crown’ constructed of a plum-tone brick. Metalwork throughout will be finished in a deep red iron oxide colour.

Gort Scott co-director Fiona Scott said: ‘For this key site, we have brought our experience in housing, as well as town centre and high street regeneration, producing a scheme that addresses local housing needs, creates an active street presence and provides much-needed affordable workspace for local businesses.’
