Boomer apartment has ‘ultimate’ rooftop study to work from home
NEW YORK: Home offices have become “almost a prerequisite” for boomers during the COVID-19 lockdown.
And now, a house-sized Elwood apartment has hit the market asking $3.55 million and boasting “the ultimate” rooftop study, according to Belle Property director Sam Inan.
The study flows out to a barbecue terrace and offers impressive bay and city views.
Mr Inan said the office was separated from the remainder of the 39 Docker St pad — which filled out the Hecker Guthrie-designed complex’s first floor — by a couple of storeys, and accessible via a lift and stairway.
This ensured the occupant could work “away from any noise”, and keep visiting clients out of their living spaces.
And while working, they could enjoy “uninterrupted views to the Elwood foreshore, across to the Royal Brighton Yacht Club and the Elwood Foreshore Reserve” and also to the city skyline, Mr Inan said.
“There’s a real push now for work-from-home ability, given none of us may be going back to the office any time soon,” he said.
“It’s all buyers are talking about now.
“Developers are also putting more emphasis on studies, and study nooks that can be concealed.”
Mr Inan said the feature would remain relevant once COVID-19 restrictions were lifted as well, with many Melburnians tipped to pursue flexible work arrangements going forward.
The four-bedroom apartment is one of six in the new building sandwiched between the beach and Ormond Rd village.
It offers almost 300sq m of indoor and outdoor space, and a hybrid “industrial chic and beach vibe” achieved via concrete ceilings, and expanses of terrazzo stone and light European Oak.
Mr Inan said it also offered a remarkable eight-star energy rating, thanks to its thermally-efficient precast-concrete construction and glazed windows.
The lock-up-and-leave home’s other highlights include a Miele and stone kitchen, a main bedroom with a dressing room and ensuite, two balconies in addition to the rooftop terrace, and a double lockup garage.
The property is being sold privately.
