Best seniors supportive housing design for Global Awards shortlisted

LOS ANGELES: The shortlist for the best seniors supportive housing design has been declared.

Over 250 designs have been considered by the awards secretariat. One of the finalists in this category is detailed here.

The city of Los Angeles will celebrate a monumental achievement in its ongoing efforts to address homelessness with the grand opening of Weingart Tower on Wednesday.

Located at 555 S. Crocker Street in the heart of Skid Row, this 19-story development comprises 278 furnished units of permanent supportive housing, marking a significant step forward in providing stability and dignity to individuals experiencing homelessness.

The grand opening ceremony will be attended by a distinguished lineup of leaders including Congresswoman Maxine Waters, California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, Councilmember Kevin de Leon, County Supervisor Hilda Solis, and other notable figures such as Sen. Kevin Murray (Ret.), CEO of Weingart Center, and Jim Andersen, Chief Development Officer of Chelsea Investment Corporation.

The project has been undergoing construction since the fall of 2021 and was estimated to cost around $160 million. The tower features a mix of units, including 228 studios, 47 one-bedroom apartments, and three one-bedroom units for on-site property managers. 40 income-based units are also reserved for Veteran households meeting certain qualifications.

Spearheaded by the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles and supported by various governmental agencies and private sector partners including The Richman Group and HUD, the investment into Weingart Tower is aimed at providing long-term housing solutions for those with disabilities, chronic illnesses, a history of chronic homelessness, or other barriers to housing stability.

The Global Award winner will be announced in November in London. (Globals)
