Best seniors housing design for Global Awards shortlisted

LOS ANGELES: The shortlist for the best housing association community design has been declared.

Over 250 designs have been considered by the awards secretariat. One of the finalists in this category is shown above.

A major boomers development has been approved for a south coast hamlet which is set to join the growing number of apartment buildings changing the seaside beach town into a larger residential area.

Both 1 Fegen St and 5A Fegen St Huskisson will soon see two small buildings demolished – purchased by Jervis Bay Town Planning owner Lee Carmichael – and in its place a $6.8m, 18 unit, four-storey apartment complex will be erected.

The development application (DA) to construct the complex at the 1517sq m corner block on Fegen St was submitted to Shoalhaven Council by Jervis Bay Town Planning and was given the final approval earlier this year, despite being 1.6m higher than the town’s 13m height limit.

While approval has been granted, Mr Carmichael said it would take some time before construction commenced.

“It will take some time to get a construction certificate,” he said. “We anticipate at least 18 months.”

The Global Award winner will be announced in November in London. (Globals)
