Best retirement housing design for Global Awards shortlisted

LOS ANGELES: The shortlist for the best retirement housing design has been declared.

Over 250 designs have been considered by the awards secretariat. One of the finalists in this category is shown above.

With a lower and upper terrace overlooking a tennis court, pool and historic gardens, the deck is a highlight of the Crafers West property at 24 Rostrevor Rd, known as Elm Park.

On the market without a price guide, selling agent Stephanie Williams said the home would suit families and those who love to entertain.

“It’s like a resort up there with 160-year-old gardens,” said Ms Williams, of Williams Real Estate.

“We’ve had locals and interstate people looking at this property.

“Since covid, there’s no age or generation limitation to properties like this one, it’s definitely appealing to all buyers and generations because of what it offers.

The home was originally built in 1860 but an extensive renovation has made it much more modern and luxurious without sacrificing its character features.

“It’s really quite clever how it encompasses the original cottage,” Ms Williams said.

“It’s the winning mix – you’ve got the best of both worlds.”

There are four bedrooms and three bathrooms throughout the home, as well as four undercover carparking spaces spread over two double garages.

Other standout features of the sprawling 4330sq m property include another smaller entertainment terrace, a cellar, the large tennis court, the pool and the manicured gardens that resemble the botanic gardens with an established vegetable patch.

“Imagine growing up having this forest of gardens to host family gatherings, Easter egg hunts or a fun game of hide and seek,” Ms Williams said.

The property is a short drive from local cafes, shops and schools and is within easy reach of the city – Ms Williams said it was often about a 15 minute drive into Adelaide.

“A lot of people don’t realise, they think it’s further than it actually is,” she said.

The home is being sold via an expressions of interest campaign, which closes at 2pm on Thursday, March 14, ahead of a final open inspection at 1pm the day before.

The Global Award winner will be announced in November in London. (Globals)
