Best retirement housing design for Global Awards shortlisted

LONDON: The shortlist for the best retirement housing design has been declared.

Over 250 designs have been considered by the awards secretariat. One of the finalists in this category is shown above.

Work has started on a new five-story luxury apartment development overlooking Nedlands Peace Memorial Rose Gardens.

Property developer Atrio has appointed Thomas building to deliver The gardens development’s first phase, which is set to feature 37 luxury apartments opening on to the leafy gardens.

The next phase of The Gardens development is set to include six boutique apartments and seven townhouses.

Seven of the Louise Street apartments designed by Hillam Architects have been snapped up, including one of four penthouses.

Atrio managing director Ian Phipps said Nedlands deserved housing diversity of exceptional quality for a “more vibrant, revitalised and diverse community”.

“We have identified a significant demand in Nedlands and its surrounds for high-quality apartment products with luxury amenity in place, allowing residents to transition seamlessly within their local community,” he said.

Architect David Hillam said its design opening on to the iconic rose gardens offered a key point of difference to other developments.

“The wellbeing of residents is paramount at The Gardens, featuring a generous central atrium space and a sculptural stair that maximizes light, ventilation, and community interaction within the building,” he said.

The Global Award winner will be announced in November in London. (Globals)
