Best retirement housing design for Global Awards shortlisted
LOS ANGELES: The shortlist for the best retirement housing design has been declared.
Over 250 designs have been considered by the awards secretariat. One of the finalists in this category is shown above.
A new six-storey retirement home will be coming to Oakville’s Bronte area.
The town’s Planning and Development Council voted during a Monday, Aug. 14 meeting to approve zoning changes that will allow Amica Bronte Village Inc., to build the senior’s facility at 2370 Lakeshore Rd., W.
The six-storey structure will house 159 residential units, including 56 independent living units, 33 assisted living units and 70 memory care units.
There will also be 443 square metres of publicly accessible ground-floor commercial/retail space, 65 parking spaces and 29 bicycle parking spaces.
Amica had initially sought to build a four-storey building for older adults.
That plan was actually approved by the town in 2021, however, Amica altered their proposal to six storeys due to an unprecedented demand for more independent living suites and care units at the nearby Amica Bronte Harbour facility during the pandemic, said Colin Chung of Glen Schnarr & Associations Inc., in a planning justification report presented to council.
During the meeting those present heard from Grant Gonzales of the Ontario Retirement Communities Association.
The Global Award winner will be announced in November in London. (Globals)
