Best retirement housing design for Global Awards shortlisted
LOS ANGELES: The shortlist for the best retirement housing design has been declared.
Over 250 designs have been considered by the awards secretariat. One of the finalists in this category is shown above.
No one appreciates the sound of a noisy neighbour, that is unless you live at this enchanting Margaret River retreat.
With its five pavilions and five outdoor spaces floating above the natural bushland, the owners are constantly immersed in the sounds of nature, from the burbling nearby Margaret River to the whisper of the ocean downstream.
“The red-tail cockatoos have been visiting recently. They’re the only neighbours we hear,” the owners said.
Showcasing the masterful handiwork of renowned architect Kerry Hill AO, the breathtaking home was awarded the 2013 Australian Institute of Architects Architecture Awards for residential architecture.
“It’s a sensational combination of comfortable living very close to the facilities and conveniences of the lively town of Margaret River while enjoying the serenity of the karris and jarrahs,” the owners said.
“The home is the perfect entertainer. We throw the giant doors open on to the deck, flick on the uplights that fill the canopy of the forest, and watch the moon on the river.”
The property sits on 3ha with floor-to-ceiling windows blurring the lines between the home and the stunning natural environment surrounding it.
The Global Award winner will be announced in November in London. (Globals)
