The four-bedroom multigenerational home at 12 Mary St was designed and renovated in 2015 by homeowners, WAF Construction’s Steph and Bill Fry, in collaboration with Steve Domoney Architecture.
Steph Fry said when they bought the home, it was a “wreck”, but being part of the industry, they knew what would work and what wouldn’t for their family.
“We have three children and we just wanted a family home and a zone for the teenagers to hang,” Ms Fry said.
“The design is beautiful, we’ve absolutely loved living here.”
The creative restoration of the home, which kept its original facade, won the Boroondara Urban Design Award for Best Heritage Extensions, Additions and Alterations in 2016.
A standout feature of the home is the curved outdoor area, which can be opened up into the contemporary kitchen and family zone, letting the outside in, making it “perfect on a hot day,” Ms Fry said.
The Global Award winner will be announced in November in London. (Globals)
