Best retirement housing design for Global Awards shortlisted
LOS ANGELES: The shortlist for the best retirement housing design has been declared.
Over 250 designs have been considered by the awards secretariat. One of the finalists in this category is shown above.
Jamie Durie has finally unveiled his dream home after 10 years of planning.
The Seven presenter took to Instagram with an album of pictures showcasing the jaw-dropping sustainable property, located on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
“Grateful. 10 years of planning, 2 years of construction and we’re finally back home,” Durie, 54, captioned the post.
It’s the stunning family home of Durie, his fiancee Ameka Jane, and their two children: daughter Beau, three, and son Nash, one.
Planning and construction of the show has been captured on the TV personality’s new Seven show, Growing Home With Jamie Durie.
“It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to build an off-the-grid house,” Durie told Woman’s Day in November.
“Ten years ago I sketched the house. We lodged the plans five years ago and then the last two years has been construction.
“I don’t think poor Ameka had any idea what she was signing up for when we met. But she came up with a number of ideas that added a lot of value to it.”
According to Durie, the show itself is a “very honest, open look” at his family.
“Any family out there who’s building their own house will go through the same as what we’ve gone through – huge budget blowouts, rising interest rates, massive construction costs that are constantly going up. We’ve had to go back to the bank four times,” he admitted.
The couple also challenged themselves “with new eco-initiatives that not many people would ever dream of trying or may not even know about”, as Durie told the publication.
The Global Award winner will be announced in December in London. (Globals)
