Former motel now set to reopen as supportive housing apartments
MELBOURNE: A former motel has been reconfigured and renovated to extend its shelf life as a supportive housing complex.
Richmond celebrated the grand opening of Civic Center Apartments on Friday, Oct. 2, marking the conversion of a former Motel 6 into 48 permanent supportive housing apartments for people experiencing chronic homelessness, plus one manager’s unit.
The property at 425 24th St. serves extremely low-income households earning up to 30 percent of area median income.
The roughly $25.8 million project was funded by roughly $14.5 million from California’s Homekey Program, $10.3 million from Richmond and $1 million in Contra Costa County Community Development Block Grant funding. The city partnered with 425 Civic Center
