Best affordable seniors housing design for Global Awards shortlisted
MELBOURNE: The shortlist for the best affordable seniors housing design has been declared.
Over 250 designs have been considered by the awards secretariat. One of the finalists in this category is shown above.
Formerly referred to as “Project C,” the Senior Affordable Housing Project on 5th Street is one of the Metro Affordable Housing Bond projects modeled in the Beaverton Local Implementation Strategy (PDF). As the project with the most deeply affordable units (38 out of 66), the best location for this project is one central to amenities, public transportation, and social services. The community engagement and outreach done in the development of the LIS identified senior housing as one type of housing desperately needed. Senior housing was prioritized for this site because of the large number of deeply affordable units and accessibility of amenities near the Community Center location. The Senior Affordable Housing Project ground floor has potential for multiple uses, both public or private.
Meadowlark Place is an affordable housing mixed-use development to be located in downtown Beaverton devoted to serving seniors (55 years or older). The ground floor will include a Head Start operated by Community Action to serve young children and families. This project will redevelop the former Beaverton Community Center site to include a 6 & 5-story, podium-style building that will support 104 affordable housing units consisting of 9 studio and 95 one-bedroom apartments. Residential amenities include on-site residential services and property management offices, community room with kitchen, community flex space, secure bike room, on-site laundry on each floor, outdoor courtyard seating area, community garden, and amenity deck.
