Multigenerational student housing designed for campus city site
LOS ANGELES: The trend to build student housing for all generators is now well established around the world.
Plans to house more than 300 students in Birmingham’s Chinatown have been revealed. The scheme would see a 301-bedroom development in a stepped building of four, ten and 15 storeys on Pershore Street in the city centre.
Sama Investment Group, a Birmingham-based developer and investor, is behind the project. It said facilities would include a social lounge, TV room, gym and workspaces.
A green roof area is planned on level four of the building.
A total of 64 cycle spaces will be provided but there will be no parking.
Sama founder Bilal Ahmed said: “Our proposals for Pershore Street will transform this vacant brownfield site to deliver a flagship scheme that will bring much-needed student accommodation to the city, while also supporting the wider growth of the area.
“This would be a great addition for the 183,000 students in Birmingham, providing much-needed, high-quality living space in the vibrant Chinese Quarter. Alongside supporting the continued growth of our educational institutions, the proposals for Pershore Street will help to unlock rental properties for other residents in the city.”
