Senior Living Community Tailored For Baby Boomers Could Redefine Retirement

LOS ANGELES: A new seniors living community being tailored for baby boomers is set to redefine retirement.

Baby boomers, known for doing things differently than their parents, are seeking new ways to spend their retirement in their own way.

According to Pew Research: “In the third quarter of 2020, about 28.6 million Baby Boomers – those born between 1946 and 1964 – reported that they were out of the labor force due to retirement.”

This is where a one-of-a-kind, Zen-inspired senior living community that focuses on overall well-being, has put forward a different approach to traditional retirement homes.

Enso Verde is a pioneering style of senior housing community in Simi Valley, California, with a unique Zen twist.

The Kendal Corp., a nonprofit developer, is working with the San Francisco Zen Center to create this unique project.

The Kendal Corp. has secured $29 million in funding for buying land, marketing, and starting the project.

As more people grow older, there’s a greater need for different senior living options.

Enso Verde offers a unique environment with Zen and Quaker values like kindness, compassion, inclusion, mindfulness, and connection with nature.

This focus on spiritual well-being makes it different from traditional senior living communities.

Amy Harrison, the acting CEO of The Kendal Corp., told the LA Business Journal the community’s central values are essential: “Enso Verde’s Quaker and Zen-inspired values of kindness and compassion, inclusion, mindful aging, and connection with the environment will help build the community.”

Enso Verde is one of two projects by The Kendal Corp. in California; the other is Enso Village in Healdsburg.

In addition, Kendal runs 11 other senior housing locations in the U.S., offering various options for seniors.

As Enso Verde prepares to redefine retirement for baby boomers in California, it raises important questions for us to consider.

Will this approach to senior living resonate with the unique desires of today’s older adults?

Ultimately, the success of this innovative project could pave the way for a new era of holistic, compassionate, and environmentally conscious senior living options.
