New retirement village design in attempt to embrace luxury living

LOS ANGELES: There is a renewed impetus to lift design standards in the retirement village sector.

A stylish, six-acre retirement village is being built off Reading Road near Lower Shiplake.

Shiplake Meadows is a joint venture between Galliard Homes, Probitas Developments and O’Shea, a leading developer and contractor, who have committed to providing healthy and sustainable homes for the over-65s.

Designed by award-winning architectural practice Nick Baker, the village is being promoted as being the first integrated retirement community in South Oxfordshire.

It will have 65 luxury homes consisting of flats, penthouses and cottages set within landscaped communal grounds with the benefit of an orchard and vegetable garden.

Central to the village is the clubhouse with bistro, bar, gym/fitness suite and on-site wellbeing and care services available exclusively to all residents, along with a dedicated taxi service provided by Chiltern Cars of Henley.

The emphasis is on providing all levels of care, from general physiotherapy to specialist clinical services at the Dunedin Spire private hospital in Reading. Home Instead is the appointed care provider for the village, offering a full range of personal care services from its local office in Reading.

The social spaces ensure a choice of activities close to home within beautiful surroundings that blend with the South Oxfordshire countryside.

Each home will have either a balcony, terrace or private garden and will be either dual or triple aspect, offering a new standard for retirement living.
