Unique home offering boomers chance to live partially underground

LOS ANGELES: A unique home now offers baby boomers the chance to live partially underground.

The luxury home has been built into its sloping 991sq m block so a portion of it is underground.

Selling agent Tony Caruana, of Alpha Residential, said the owners spared no expense building the home, which was finished in 2019.

“This wasn’t built by a builder to be put on the market, this was custom designed by the owners,” he said.

“They’ve made it for their own enjoyment.”

Mr Caruana said the home was inspired by properties in Sydney, where the owners were from, and designed to make the most of its sloping block.

Its open kitchen, dining and living area takes centre stage, with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors offering a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor living.

There are two bedrooms, one of which also opens onto the porch, as well as a study and a shared bathroom.

Its solid concrete structure, feature lighting and black fixtures and fittings accentuate its modern vibe throughout.

There is a large lawn area on top of the home, while landscaped gardens frame a path that leads down to the house from a carpark at street level.

Mr Caruana said it was attracting strong interest from a range of prospective buyers.

“I’ve had local and interstate interest as well – I’ve got people flying down this week to have a look,” he said.

Mr Caruana said the owners were selling the property so they could relocate back to Sydney.
