51 luxury units planned for beach site at resort
LOS ANGELES: An ambitious developer wants to build a 16-storey residential tower in the heart of a suburban Surfers Paradise street near the Nerang River.
Sinclair Projects, fresh off buying the former Allamanda Hospital carpark in Southport, has lodged plans for Contrieu, a 51-unit luxury building.
It is earmarked for a 1012sq m site fronting both Sunset Blvd and Alberta Place and will require the demolition of the two existing 1960s-era houses.
A planning report lodged by Sinclair argues that the unit complex, in the heart of the high-density development zone, is in keeping with the area’s character as similar projects are proposed.
“The development presents a unique opportunity to consolidate land holdings, resulting in a sophisticated and high-quality design within the heart of the Gold Coast,” it reads.
“The design has been carefully considered to protect the amenity of neighbouring properties while contributing positively to the ongoing evolution of the area.
“The locality has historically featured a mix of dwelling houses and higher-density accommodation, and this development responds directly to that established context.”
It is the latest apartment project proposed for the riverfront street, once the sole domain of houses dating back to the 1960s.
Plans for a six-level, four-unit complex were unveiled in August for another Sunset Blvd site.
Yamba Partners 4217, an entity linked to Hong Kong-born businessman Pan Hong Au, a Robina resident and China-born Nang Ho, who lives in Surfers Paradise, want to build an ochre-coloured building inspired by both the red centre and Morocco.
In 2024 a 1000sq m site was bought for $9.35m and plans lodged for an 18-level tower.
